Winter Indian Wedding at Shirdi Sai Temple
When my friend and neighbor had asked me to photograph their relative’s wedding I was both excited and intrigued. I knew an Indian wedding consisted of many unique customs and traditions that I wasn’t as familiar with. We started on Friday nights with the Henna gathering where they do these incredibly intricate and amazing designs on the hands and feet of the bride. They were not going to let a power outage and snowstorm get in the way of this. The following evening was filled with dance and a fun time had by all. The ceremony took place on a Monday at 10 AM. That is the first time in my 20 years of wedding photography that we started that early. That time might be easier for Amit and the guys, but for Ash and the girls, a 4 AM makeup session is a little ambitious. They pulled it off without a hitch and everyone looked beautiful. The ceremony itself was a two-hour affair, filled with rituals and traditions that are unique to their culture. The temple was such a truly amazing space. I could think of no better place to have such a ceremony than Shirdi Sai Temple in Groton MA. We finish the day with some nice portraits of Amit and Ash. I was so happy to be part of the day and experience.
