Jaesun and Sonia’s Wedding at Holy Ghost Society in Lowell, MA
Nothing can put your nerves and skills to the test like shooting a wedding for the daughter of a 30 year veteran wedding photographer. While wedding photography has been a way of life for Sonia and her family for three decades, when it came to shooting her and Jaesun’s Portuguese wedding, it was about anything but intimidation. The bride, and her gracious family, immediately made me feel welcome. From the moment I arrived at Sonia’s parents’ house in Lowel, I felt relaxed and able to focus on what was important: creating memorable images of this special day. One thing this young, yet very mature couple has in common is a strong attachment to their community, their church, and their culture. So, it seems only appropriate that Jaesun and Sonia met at a community church event four years ago. This strong connection helped them to grow closer and was evident throughout their wedding day. Both bride and groom chose to prepare for the day at their childhood homes and included their families. The ceremony took place at Saint Anthony’s church, just steps away from Sonia’s house and whose history is deeply rooted in the Lowell Portuguese community. The service was spoken almost exclusively in the Portuguese language. Even the reception was held at the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, a place where the Portuguese community gathers to celebrate their common heritage.
